Hopefully, the previous pages have given some indication of what I liked and loved and what I didn't. So how has the trip affected me overall. Well, I could resort to well-worn travel cliches such as it broadened my mind or it expanded my horizons or, even, it let me experience a different culture. But now that enough time has passed for reflection and for me to gain a sense of perspective, I'd simply say a part of Peru will ever be a part of me.
Finally, to end, some random observations follow interspersed with a few last photos. |
Machu Picchu. I opted to extend my trip to the tourist traps of Cusco, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. A few of the least bad photos are included for a bit of colour. But I'm not going into detail on this part of my trip as it has been done by many others with finer words and prettier pictures elsewhere on the net and in print. |

Music (& football) makes the world go round. | 1. Asereje (the Ketchup Song) by Las Ketchup played everywhere we went in Peru, and two months later it was Number 1 in the UK chart. 2. Mark read in a local peruvian newspaper that David Beckham had named his second son "Romeo". 3. Peru - Shakira and Enrique have hits in Spanish. UK- Shakira and Enrique have hits in English. 4. Peru - Premier League football on pay TV. UK - ditto.

Machu Picchu. Wayna Picchu, the sugarloaf mountain in the middle ground is worth the hard climb up for the view alone. |

Food, Drink & Drugs | 1. Inca Kola - bright green, nice flavour, very sweet. 2. Lomo Saltado - tasty stir-fried beef & vegetable dish with both rice and chips. 3. Coca Tea - subtle, pleasant flavour; helps at altitude. 4. Guinea Pig/Cuy - cooked: looks like roadkill; live: too cute to eat. 5. Ciproflox - kills all known bacteria including anthrax and diarrhea, available over-the-counter at all good Peruvian chemists. 6. Marmalade - is served at Peruvian breakfasts. Paddington Bear would be pleased.

Last but not least some flattery. | Gracias to Mark Atkinson and Raul (in Cusco) for being such excellent guides. Thanks to my fellow travellers: Nina, Paul, Noel and Christian for the great camaraderie (and for at least trying not to blow smoke in my face). |
Pisac Market. Different sorts of maize or corn. |
